The multi-award winning Brite Theater present their brand new show '(Can This Be) Home'
If you have moved away from where you were born and raised, where is home? Surely it’s not back where you came from because something made you want to get away, but is it where you lay your hat tonight? Where the heart is? Or is it both those things and neither? Have you lost something forever by leaving and what have you gained then? Can you ever feel at home again? Will you let us?
This is a project that started as a Tron 100 project in May 2016 when Icelandic director Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir met up with Swedish actress Maria Jones and Scottish-Canadian dramaturgh Glenys Leigh McIntyre and started devising from a questionaire Kolbrun had sent out to a few folk that had settled away from where they were born or raised. Together with musician Tom Oakes they made a three hander that explored what 'home' is in the run up to the EU referendum, performed in Glasgow and Plymouth. It was political, it was emotional, it was current.
After the results Kolbrun did an excerpt at the Over to EU event at the Traverse Theatre. It was obvious things had changed. So the show had to change.
Unfortunately Maria decided to go back to Sweden so starting fresh Kolbrun recruited Egyptian-Italian playwright and performer Sara Shaarawi and Hungarian co-director Eszter Marsalko to join her, Tom and Glenys in a redevelopment of the piece. The outcome was presented as work in progress at Outside Eyes at the Tron; and Hothouse at the Traverse Theatre. It was personal, it was full of love and uncertainty, it was current.
We are still developing, but hope to be with you soon.
